Littlewolf has been appointed to manage the promotion and launch of a prominent new addition to the North East's annual festivities.

The Durham City Food Festival will take place in Durham's historic city centre on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd October, bringing together over 150 regional, national and international food producers for a celebration of quality food and drink in a beautiful and historic environment.

Central to the Food Festival will be an enormous gourmet food marquee on Palace Green on both days of the event, featuring over 160 craft and food stalls. Alongside this, a Local Food Producers Market will provide a prominent showcase for local food producers to advertise their wares, while in the Market Place, Durham's ever-popular Continental Market will run from Thursday 20th to Sunday 23rd October, featuring a wide selection of cheeses, breads, meats, delicacies and treats from across Europe and beyond, alongside a Craft and Gift Market.

Durham Indoor Market will open on both days of the festival, and many local restauranteurs are anticipated to offer special menus throughout the weekend. Coinciding with the final weekend of the Durham Book Festival, the event will also aim to bring together food and literature with a number of special events across the weekend.

"The festival is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the diversity and quality of regional, national and international food and drink in Durham," says Georgina Wilczek, Managing Director of Littlewolf PR & Marketing. "We look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to join us for this exciting new event."

January 2011:

Durham Indoor Market is 'Best in UK'

NABMA Award

Durham Indoor Market named Best Private Market in the UK at a national award ceremony.

The Market picked up the award from the National Association of British Market Authorities for its impressive range of initiatives aimed at both traders and customers, and its outreach to the wider community with a host of promotions and events. Graham Wilson, Chief Executive of NABMA, declared that "The level of entries in this category was the best since the competition began."

Currently open six days a week, the historic Indoor Market is situated in the centre of the City in an attractive Victorian market hall off Durham's Market Place. It first opened for business in 1851, underwent extensive refurbishment in the mid 1990s, and is now home to over 50 traders offering a wide range of foods, goods and services. Despite the recession, the Market continues to prove popular with customers and retailers alike and is set to celebrate its 160th anniversary later this year.

Over the last twelve months, Durham Indoor Market has received over two million visitors through its doors; has had a giant mural of the City painted on its walls by Durham University students; has entertained a number of famous guests including Sir Ming Campbell and writer Terry Deary; has had its mezzanine level extended to provide greater facilities for retailers and a larger café bistro; and has played host to a number of live radio and TV broadcasts. It also plays the lead role in organising the award-winning annual Christmas Festival, the busiest retail weekend in the City Centre.

Frank Nicholson, Chairman of Durham Markets Company, comments:

"Durham Indoor Market is the beating heart of the City and plays a crucial role in supporting independent retail and the local economy. Littlewolf plays an invaluable part in the Market's on-going success and we look forward to continuing to work with them in the future."

Littlewolf Wins Marketing/PR Initiative
of the Year

Winner picture

Littlewolf PR & Marketing has been awarded Marketing/PR Initiative of the Year at the Durham Retail Awards 2010 in association with Durham Markets Company, Durham University and Durham Cathedral.

The trophy, presented by The Durham Times, was given in recognition of the huge success of the Local Food Producers Market launched at the City of Durham Christmas Festival 2009, which aimed to promote and celebrate the rich variety of local fare produced right on the city's doorstep.

The Market was designed to offer maximum support to local food producers at a very tricky economic time. Set in the Cathedral Cloisters, it represented the first ever official collaboration between the Cathedral and Markets in over 1000 years. Stalls were laid out around the atmospheric Cloister walkways in a celebration of locally-produced food. Exhibitors included well-known figures from Durham's Indoor Market such as Akin's Family Bakers and the award-winning fishmonger IK Fish.

Thanks to a comprehensive PR & marketing campaign run by Littlewolf surrounding the event, the Local Producers Food Fair was a huge success, experiencing excellent levels of footfall and trade and being very well received by locals and visitors alike.

As a mark of its success, it will be returning to the Festival again this year, newly expanded across two days of the event and incorporating even more traders than before.

Littlewolf is managing the marketing and PR for the whole Christmas Festival. For further information, see www.durhamchristmasfestival.com
